Heroes of Huracan
Heroes of Huracan Is a character-driven, digital RPG game that challenges both the limits of narrative game mechanics, and the idea that historical fantasy RPGs must take place in a European setting with a focus on combat and leveling systems. The game focuses on exploring individual characters, their motivations, and their backgrounds in a way that doesn’t involve branching dialogue, but instead has characters interact with specific situations and tasks. The outcome of these situations is determined by the character’s traits, skills, and personality.

My intent is to promote more diversity in game settings and characters by representing cultures that are traditionally marginalized in games. My imagined world derives from aspects of the Dominican Republic - past and present - and its dynamic culture, peoples, and history.

My main goal with this project is to practice writing characters and dialogue. I really enjoy creating stories with multiple protagonists, developing relationships between them, and intertwining storylines to follow. I also wanted to focus on writing what I know. I wanted to write about my experience, my culture, and the people around me. Each person, each problem, and every NPC is in some way based on the Dominican Experience. Crushing expectations, superstitious, strong religious backdrop, and even more… problematic things.
